Scott Reitz Co-founder and Head Instructor

As a 26-year veteran of the L.A.P.D., Scott has spent 22 years in the elite Metropolitan Division, with 10 years as an operator and instructor in S.W.A.T. For the last several years, he has been the primary firearms instructor for the Metropolitan Division and responsible for all in-service training for the department. During his career as a field officer with the Metropolitan Division, Scott was involved in 5 officer-involved shootings, all in policy with successful outcomes.

Scott is an F.B.I. certified law enforcement instructor and has trained with SEAL team 6, Delta and the F.B.I.’s HRT in counter-terrorist operations and participated in Recon Battalion anti-terrorist fleet training with the U.S. Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton. Scott also spent several years as an adjunct instructor for the Department of Energy’s SRT-III training in New Mexico.

As a highly qualified use of deadly force expert witness in police defense cases for the Superior and Federal Courts, he works as a lecturer and consultant on high profile cases for law firms, the District Attorney’s office and the U.S. Government. He is certified by the California State Bar to provide continuing education credits to attorneys on the Use of Deadly Force. Scott has a Bachelors Degree from the University of New Mexico.

These qualifications distinguish him from all other law enforcement trainers and give him a unique perspective on the use of deadly force. This “real life” experience has contributed to his capabilities as a firearms instructor and his ongoing involvement as an expert in the use of deadly force make him imminently qualified to train law enforcement officers as well as civilians. If you asked the most respected instructors in the firearms industry to list the people they would train with, Scott’s name would be at the top of the list.

Brett McQueen Co-founder and Director

As an F.B.I. certified instructor for law enforcement, Brett has trained thousands of law enforcement professionals, civilians and federal agents over the last 14 years. She has co-instructed the ATF SRT groups as well as the Navy SEALS and members of the F.B.I., D.E.A., I.N.S. and numerous SWAT teams. She has been a guest lecturer across the country and has put on seminars and training programs for agencies all over the world.

Brett trained at Gunsite, Thunder Ranch and the Yavapai Academy and has appeared on numerous talk shows, television shows and radio shows, including World News with Peter Jennings, CBS’s Dan Rather Report and 20/20. She teaches courses for women in law enforcement and has set up programs at elementary schools on firearms safety for children. Brett also consults on the Use of Deadly force to the legal profession.

Brett provides technical advisement for television and films, as well as firearms training for such actors as Jennifer Lopez, Ellen DeGeneres, George Clooney and Kristanna Loken, the new terminator on T-3. Brett is responsible for the training program at ITTS and runs the school. She has a Bachelors Degree from U.C.L.A. and an M.B.A.

William Kelly

Bill is a Sergeant in the Van Nuys Patrol Division of the L.A.P.D. He has worked West Valley Patrol, Rampart Patrol, Fugitive Warrant Section, Detective Support Division, Felony Warrant Service, Wilshire Division Special Problems Unit, and was an element member of the Metropolitan Division.

Bill has attended numerous firearms schools and has taught officer survival, tactical handgun,shotgun and rifle and high risk warrant service. He has been a firearms instructor for 9 years and has been a member of the Metropolitan Division’s Counter Assault Team, Light Rope Team and Cutting Team. Bill is a certified HITS, RITS and SITS instructor for the L.A.P.D. He is the recipient of the “Police Medal” for bravery.

Charlie Varga

Charlie Varga is a Sergeant with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. He has been with this agency for 17 years. He is currently assigned to the Ben Clark Training Center as a Training/Firearms supervisor. He is responsible for training the basic academy, reserves, and various college courses related to firearms. His collateral assignments include Team Leader for his departments Emergency Services Team (Tactical Team). He has 14 years experience with the Emergency Services Team with the Last seven as a team leader. He has worked patrol and investigative assignments as both operator and supervisor.

He has been a firearms instructor of one sort or another for 22 years. First with the United States Marine Corps and currently the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. He has trained people whose experience runs the entire spectrum from beginners to "High speed, Low drag" special operations people from local, State, Federal and Military units. He has attended numerous firearms and tactical schools.

John Dohle

We are very pleased to welcome John Dohle as a primary instructor for ITTS. John has 23 years of law enforcement experience with the L.A.P.D., with the last 15 of those with L.A.P.D. SWAT. He has completed the L.A.P.D. HITS, SITS and RITS schools, SWAT and SWAT sniper schools; as well as the FBI sniper and range master schools. John also completed the U.S.M.C. abbreviated scout sniper school for L.A.P.D. SWAT officers. He is an adjunct instructor for the NTOA and IACP and teaches many of their
SWAT schools.

 

John Helms

John has been in law enforcement for over 30 years where his career has been devoted to high- risk fieldwork, which includes several years in the Metropolitan Division as an operator and instructor for S.W.A.T. He has worked details from gangs to undercover surveillance and is currently a Detective III on a highly specialized elite surveillance team. John’s reputation speaks for itself. He is a “legend” on his department, having been involved in several high profile cases.

John is an adjunct instructor with the Department of Energy’s SRT-III training and has been a guest instructor at Thunder Ranch. He has trained elite military and law enforcement groups from all over the world. He is one of the most respected individuals in law enforcement and his expertise and experience is unparalled.
